URGENT – Pre-school CLOSED Thursday 1st March 2018

In the light of recent weather forecasts the decision has been taken to close pre-school TOMORROW (Thursday 1st March).  Our sincere apologies for the short notice but we think it is the best course of action and would hate for anyone to attempt the journey in dangerous conditions.

We will update you as soon as possible regarding Friday although if conditions remain bad, pre-school will obviously remain closed.

Take care – especially if you have to drive tomorrow and we’ll see you soon hopefully.

Please keep an eye out for a new comments book which will be on display at pre-school from today (Monday 15th Jan). This is a book in which we would like you to write any comments, suggestions or ideas for pre-school.

Positive or negative all your comments will be very welcome as it gives us a chance to address any issues and to make improvements. You will also find the operational plan on the same table which details our working policies and procedures – please feel free to have a look.

Fun on the farm

Press release                                                                                      13th May 2016

Fun on the Farm pic

Stockland & Yarcombe pre-school enjoys some fun on the farm.

The children of Stockland and Yarcombe pre-school have had a busy few months enjoying a whole host of fun activities.  They had a wonderful time visiting some new lambs on a nearby farm last term and also completed a sponsored beach walk for Sport Relief at Seaton beach which raised an impressive £124.50.

The pre-school has recently enlisted the help of professional sports coach Dan Murnane to implement the Leap Ahead scheme every Wednesday morning.  The programme develops eye-hand co-ordination, large muscle movement, balance and rhythm.  It is hoped that the scheme will have huge benefits for the children’s development and it also aims to encourage future participation in sport from a young age.

The children will be focussing on the theme of different occupations this term and will be enjoying a visit from some local police officers and a nurse as well as another trip out to a farm.

As a registered charity the dedicated volunteers who form our Committee are always looking for ways to raise money and we would like to appeal to anyone who has any unwanted clothes, shoes or handbags to donate these to pre-school for a Bags 2 School fundraising event which will be held in July.  Special bags can be collected from the pre-school at Stockland Victory hall from the 6th June (or alternatively you can fill a bin bag!) and the bags will need to be brought back to pre-school on or before Friday 1st July when they will be collected.  The pre-school will be given money based on the weight of the bags collected so please have a look in your wardrobes and drawers and see if you can help us out.

We will also have a stall at the upcoming Stockland Fair on bank holiday Monday, 30th May at 1.30pm in the grounds of Stockland Victory Hall.  This is an amazing event with wonderful stalls and masses of fun events for children and adults alike so please do pop along and say hello.

Stockland & Yarcombe pre-school achieve ‘Outstanding’ OFSTED result

Stockland & Yarcombe pre-school have been celebrating following a recent visit from Ofsted.  The pre-school is pleased to announce that following the inspection they have been awarded an ‘Outstanding’ from Ofsted.

The pre-school has worked tirelessly since the last Ofsted inspection in 2010 to improve on the previous ‘Good’ result and following a tense few weeks, the Outstanding result has now been announced.  Sarah Bilson the pre-school manager says “We have a strong team of dedicated staff and Committee volunteers and I am thrilled that all the hard work and dedication to the pre-school has paid off.”

Stockland & Yarcombe pre-school is based in the village hall in Stockland and has recently benefitted from the addition of a pre-school garden which is being used by the children to explore the natural environment, plant vegetables and flowers and generally indulge in some muddy fun!  The pre-school also benefits from a fortnightly visit to the Donkey Sanctuary where the children can play, meet the animals and even ride the donkeys.

The pre-school take children from the age of 2 to 5 years when they start primary school.  There is also a baby and toddler group in Stockland village hall every Friday morning from 10am until 12pm which is run by the pre-school but led by the toddler parents.

For more information about the pre-school, please email or have a look at the website  Alternatively call to speak to one of the members of staff on 07890 347613.

Forest School

The pre-school staff, committee and volunteers are working hard to get the new Forest School up and running.  A new fence has been installed (many thanks to Caroline Bateman) and the ground has been cleared.  We are now waiting for delivery of various pieces of equipment before we let the children loose.  With fingers crossed for some good weather in the coming months, we are hoping the forest school will provide ample opportunity for outdoor fun and learning in a natural environment.

Lloyds Community Fund Results

We would like to say a huge 'Thank you' to all those who voted for Stockland pre-school during the Lloyds Communitiy Fund competition. Although we didn't manage to secure the top prize (we were up against some fierce competition!) we did manage to secure £500 for the pre-school which will be still be a great boost for us.

Thanks also to those who voted for Membury playing fields which secured the top prize of £3000 towards new play equipment for the village. A fantastic result!
